Women have been removing hair from their underarms for thousands of years. And yet, as a species, we’re still mastering the techniques. It’s not as simple as you might think. In fact, given the sheer volume of discussion on the subject in various publications, we’re still a long way off from every woman having a winning strategy. Check out some of the ideas below.

Use A Lotion To Get Rid Of Your Perma-Shadow

We’d all like to remove hair from our underarms and for that to be the end of the matter. But that’s not how it works out in practice. Many of us wind up with a perma-shadow. It’s an area of dark skin that tracks where our hairs grow.

There are two main causes of this. One is just more pigmented skin in the armpit region. The other is the darkness of hairs under the surface changing the color on top. Fortunately, you can deal with both problems long term using lightening lotions. These contain compounds that help to neutralize some of the natural pigmentation of the skin, making it appear more consistent with the rest of the body.

Get Rid Of Ingrown Hairs With Lasers

Ingrown hairs are a massive risk for women who shave their armpits. It’s all-too-easy to get your technique wrong, forcing hairs into the surrounding skin, leading to annoying raised bumps.

There are several methods that you can try to eliminate this problem, including regularly exfoliating using exfoliating scrubs. However, laser hair removal is arguably the most effective technique. That’s because it stops hair from growing at all, making ingrown hairs impossible.

Stop Hair From Growing Back Rapidly

If you’re still shaving your armpit hair, you’ll know that it can grow back pretty fast. So fast, in fact, that it can sometimes feel a little ridiculous. You shave in the morning and then by the evening, you have a shadow again. Not what you want.

Fortunately, you can now buy hair inhibitors. These are products that you wipe on your underarms to slow the rate of hair growth. Many double as moisturizers and antiperspirants, keeping you dry at the same time.

Keep Your Underarms Moisturized

The armpits are a sensitive area. That’s because they are one of the primary outlets for the lymphatic system – a series of pipes that run throughout your body, removing toxins. Sometimes, you’ll notice that your body odor is worse than usual because you’ve eaten something that your lymph is trying to eliminate.

The area under the arms, therefore, can become a little dry and chapped, especially if you are regularly applying shaving products to it. It’s a good idea, therefore, to apply moisturiser every day. When using products, try to keep them as natural as you can. This way, you can protect this sensitive area of your body from damage.

Getting the perfect underarms can sometimes feel like a never ending mission. But with the right approach, it’s something that you can achieve. It just requires a little patience and a willingness to use the right products.
