How To Maintain Good Posture When Spending Hours At Your Desk

Working from home can be a great alternative to working in an office, but it’s not without its challenges. For example, you may find yourself slouching in front of your computer for hours at a time or hunching over your desk to take calls.

If you’re working from home, here are some tips for maintaining good posture:

  • Sit up straight when reading paperwork or documents that require concentration; don’t slouch forward with your head down looking at the page because this can cause neck strain and headaches if done for long periods of time!
  • Use a footrest or chair with good lower back support while sitting to help keep your spine straight and aligned while typing or using the mouse.
  • Make sure the chair you’re sitting on is ergonomically designed and comfortable.
  • Keep your feet flat on the floor or rest them on a footrest at the lowest level possible while still keeping your back straight and relaxed. If you’re using a laptop with an external keyboard, use the keyboard tray rather than having your wrists bent up at an awkward angle for prolonged periods of time.
  • Make sure your chair has armrests that aren’t too high (this will make it easier for you to relax your shoulders).
  • Take frequent breaks from sitting. Get up and move around every 15 minutes or so (even if it’s just to walk over to the window).
  • Stretch whenever you feel stiff or sore (and especially after sitting for long periods of time).
  • Try not to sit with your legs crossed for long periods of time, as this can put pressure on your lower back (it’s best if both feet are resting flat on the floor).
  • Make sure your desk is at eye level or higher.
  • Place items within easy reach so that you don’t have to stretch for them or lean over too much.
