The origins of coronavirus patient zero have been debated for more than a year now. It seems that the latest news might shed some light on the issue.
The World Health Organization’s top Covid official has claimed that a researcher in a lab in Wuhan, China is probably the cause of this terrible outbreak.
As reported by Newsweek, Peter Ben Embarek, who led a mission to investigate the origins of Covid, said the following:
“An employee who was infected in the field by taking samples falls under one of the probable hypotheses. This is where the virus jumps directly from a bat to a human. In that case, it would then be a laboratory worker instead of a random villager or other person who has regular contact with bats. So it is actually in the probable category.”
More and more relevant publications are now discussing the news as it becomes viral.
Controversial issues about the coronavirus pandemic origins
As The Sun notes, Dr Ben Embarek admitted the fact that the team found no direct evidence of the claims above.
On the other hand, you may be aware of the fact that China has long been accused of covering up the early days of the pandemic. But the country obviously denied all allegations, noting that all this is nothing more than a conspiracy theory.
Embarek reportedly revealed the WHO team’s initial “extremely unlikely” conclusion “was only included at all after tough negotiation with Chinese scientists.”
But another vital piece of information is the fact that these experts originally wanted to do nothing with the report about the lab leak, The Sun notes.
Just in case you did not know, the Wuhan Institute of Virology is located extremely close to the first known cases at a seafood market in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
This controversial laboratory is specialized in studying bat-based coronaviruses, which are very similar to Covid.
What’s more important to mention is the fact that this is the location found to be holding the virus’s closest genetic cousin.
The WHO reports trigger massive debates
Ever since all this has been revealed, all kinds of pertinent questions have been asked.
These included subjects such as the following: whether the lab – which is the highest security of its kind in all China – could have played a role in the origins of the virus.
As expected, the important news revealed by the WHO is all over Twitter as well, and people’s reactions are varied.
Check out some of them below.
That must mean there is absolutely overwhelming evidence that will be made public soon.

Someone else, on the other hand, said the following:
Yet bats were hibernating at the time and no bats with covid19 were found.

Anyway, the truth is far from being 100% reported so far, and we might just have to wait a bit longer until we eventually learn what were the exact origins and triggers of this pandemic that managed to change our lives, probably for good.
