Unvaccinated Couple Dies After Ignoring Family’s Pleas To Get The COVID-19 Vaccine – Leaves Behind 4 Underage Kids

One couple from Virginia refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine in spite of their family’s pleads. Unfortunately, both of them passed away of the virus, leaving behind four young children.

Kevin and Misty Mitchem were only in their 40s when the disease took them, and as they fought COVID-19, they regretted not getting vaccinated, according to a family member.

Apparently, members of their family had been urging them to receive the shots.

The man’s mother told the press that her son’s last words to her were: “Mom, I love you, and I wish that I’d got the shot.”

The Virginia pair lost their lives only weeks apart and have left behind their four kids.

After choosing not to get vaccinated, Kevin and Misty ended up testing positive for COVID-19 and needing hospitalization.

Kevin’s brother, Mike, talked to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, telling the news outlet that “They’d just been leery. They were going off what they’ve been hearing and reading on the internet.”

Based on data provided by the CDC, Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccines are very effective in preventing infections with the COVID-19 virus.

The same source shows that around 61.9 percent of the population of Virginia is vaccinated with both doses of either vaccine as compared to 56.8 percent of the United States’ population as a whole.

The 48 year old man’s brother told the Times-Dispatch that Kevin tested positive for the virus after falling ill and was just told to stay in quarantine at home and rest.

Not too long after, 46 year old Misty, who had diabetes, caught COVID-19 from her partner as well, and her state worsened really fast.

She was rushed to the hospital and put on a ventilator to try and save her life.

However, it was to no avail and the mother of four passed away soon after, on September 23, as per the Times-Dispatch.

Mike told the publication that “It really came out of nowhere.”

Kevin’s father, Don Mitchem, told NBC 4 that his son called him when Misty was rushed to the hospital as well as when he checked in himself not too long after.

Don visited Kevin in the hospital before his son was put on a ventilator.

“He said, ‘Dad, I’m scared to death,'” Don went on to share with NBC 4, adding that he advised Kevin to call his mother and that is exactly what he did.

Kevin’s mother, Terry, shared with the outlet that “He called me up and said, ‘Mom, I love you and I wish that I’d got the shot. Of course I told him, ‘It’s past. You can’t do anything about it.'”

Don and Terry had already received their vaccines and booster shots and had also tried to convince their son and daughter-in-law to follow in their footsteps.

Mike mentioned that Kevin was “very active” and a really “healthy” person but despite his good health, COVID-19 still managed to do incredible damage to his lungs to the point that it could not be repaired, as per the Times-Dispatch.

The man lost the battle with the virus on October 8.

The brother told the news outlet that the mourning family feels a lot of sadness, of course, but also anger.

“Part of our pain is anger. Anger because people are still not getting the vaccine.”

As mentioned before, Misty and Kevin had four kids together, ages 11 to 17, and Kevin had an adult daughter as well, from a previous relationship, and a grandson.

Mike noted that his brother “had everything to live for. He had five kids and a grandson, and now all of them have lost him.”
