Rock from a formation that is 90 million years old was the subject of a study that was conducted by a group of academics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. They were able to determine how the Earth interacted with the Moon around 1.4 billion years ago as a result of this activity.
We want to be able to study rocks that are billions of years old in a way that is comparable to how we study modern geologic processes, said Stephen Meyers, a professor of geoscience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
According to the researchers, it has been determined that the Moon is receding from the Earth at a rate of 3.82 centimeters each year. This indicates that, eventually, it will lead to days on Earth lasting 25 hours, which will occur around 200 million years from now. Thanks to China’s space program, which has revealed hidden structures that may assist us in piecing together pieces of the Moon’s past, scientists have also just uncovered secrets that were buried beneath the surface of the moon and date back billions of years.
