We’re all used to thinking that growing up is a normal and indispensable phase of life. But unfortunately, there are some exceptions, as not everyone will get to enjoy the amazing process. One of those individuals is a 22-year old woman who has the looks of an 8-year-old girl.
The New York Post presents the story of Shauna Rae, a 22-year old woman who looks like an 8-year-old girl. How was such a thing possible? Shauna has dealt with a rare form of brain cancer at only six months of age. The chemotherapy she underwent prevented her from growing properly.
Measuring only three foot 10
Shauna measures only three foot ten, meaning just about the height of an 8-year-old child. She explains the obvious: because of her appearance, Shauna finds it hard to go to a bar, gym, get a tattoo, or date someone. The woman won’t get to ever have the height of an adult.
The trailer’s description says it all:
Shauna Rae may look like a child, but she desperately wants to be treated like an adult. Premiering on Tuesday, January 11 at 10PM ET/PT, I Am Shauna Rae follows Shauna as she navigates the extraordinary challenge of trying to live a normal adult life despite her appearance. Diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer at six months old, Shauna’s treatment allowed for remission, but resulted in a side effect no one predicted – she stopped growing. The chemotherapy made her pituitary gland almost dormant, leaving Shauna with a childlike appearance and standing at only 3 feet and 10 inches tall– the average size of an 8-year-old. Except, Shauna is 22.
Patricia “Patty” Schrankel, the mother of Shauna, reminded of the difficult time when her daughter had brain cancer while she was just a baby. Patricia says she feels almost guilty, but she is up to protect her daughter.
