Scientists have discovered a miraculous event: the red and dusty planet Mars used to be wet and lush. It has been stated that there used to be two different reservoirs that had water beneath the surface of the planet, as reported on Fox News. But what can scientists understand about this discovery?
The planetary scientist Jessica Barnes from the University of Arizona has stated there is still much more research to be done before completely understanding how it is possible to have water on Mars. She says that first, it is necessary to determine where the water came from.
Secondly, the amount of time that the water has spent on the surface of the red planet is essential. In addition to this, proper research has to be performed in order to analyze how did the water contributes to the planet’s formation and evolution.

Scientists Jessica Barned has the started closely looking at the isotopes of hydrogen that were positioned inside Mars rocks. The isotopes are initially from the planet’s crust. The samples of rocks were brought alongside with the meteorites Black Beauty and Allan Hills. Isotopes are variants of stone with a different number of neutrons.
During this study, the researchers’ team understood that there are two different types of volcanic rocks on Mars in terms of geology and biochemistry. These two rocks are either enriched shergottites or depleted shergottites that are different in terms of the hydrogen isotope concentration that can be found in the water.
Therefore, the main discovery of this analysis is that Mars used to have two different water resources. Additionally, unlike our planet and the Moon. Mars never had an ocean of magma in the core of the planet that would ultimately encompass the planet. The results of Jessica Barned’s team were published in the Nature Geoscience online journal.
