Most scientists agree that if aliens exist, the most reasonable guess is that they’re somewhere far away from our Solar System. But a new wild claim from a Harvard professor turns everything upside down, and we also have strong reasons to believe him.
The person in question is the astronomer Avi Loeb from Harvard University, and CBS News brings us the news about his unique thoughts on alien life.
‘Oumuamua – ultimate proof for alien life?
ʻOumuamua is the first known interstellar object that passed through the Solar System. The object defies many expectations through its shape and characteristics, and it was discovered by Robert Weryk with the help of the Pan-STARRS telescope from the Haleakalā Observatory, Hawaii, in 2017.
Avi Loeb declared:
At first people thought, ‘Well it must be a rock, just like the asteroids or comets that we have seen before within the solar system,
But as they got more data on it, it looks very weird.
Oddly enough, the interstellar object was named after a moniker that in Hawaiian means a messenger that reaches out from the distant past.
While ‘Oumuamua is about 10 times as long as it is wide, and it’s hurtling through space at speeds of 196,000 mph, Loeb also added:
It didn’t look like a comet, yet it behaved some like something that has an extra push.
Although the Harvard University astronomer bets that humanity has been witnessing the arrival of an alien probe in our Solar System, there’s still a hunch that the object can only be usual space junk. Loeb declared:
We don’t know because we didn’t collect enough data, enough evidence and I’m just alerting everyone to look for objects like that so that next time there is one coming by we will examine it more carefully.
ʻOumuamua features motion patterns that were never seen before. At closer observations, the scientists were surprised to find out that the speed of the object is accelerating.
Is ‘Oumuama propelled by an alien machine?
Astronomer Avi Loeb has proposed even since last year in August that the interstellar visitor is a piece of alien technology. ‘Oumuamua being propelled by an alien machine would explain the unexpected acceleration. The machine would be millimeter-thin, wide, and pushed by solar radiation.
The discovery of the ‘Oumuama object occurred 40 days after its passing on the closest point to the Sun. During the first observation,ʻOumuamua was located about 33 million km away from Earth.
We may never find aliens
The sad truth is that even if highly-advanced alien civilizations are there, somewhere, we may never encounter them. The distances between the stars are way too large, we’re technology unevolved to reach other civilizations, but there’s one more interesting aspect that many scientists aren’t aware of.
What if aliens are closer to us than we ever imagined, but there’s no way to detect them with neither our senses and our technology? The Universe could be the home to completely unknown chemical elements to us.
The American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson had a unique opinion on highly-intelligent aliens ever visiting the Earth. He believes that those hypothetical creatures could be far more advanced than us, so advanced that even the world’s smartest human could mean nothing for them.
To get a better understanding of how more advanced aliens could be compared to us, deGrasse Tyson suggests that these other beings could be viewing us just like we perceive worms.
Of course, not all scientists share the same view on possible creatures from another planet. After all, deGrasse Tyson was only speculating.
