Researchers at the Arizona State University, in the USA, took data from NASA and created interesting and accurate maps of Mars. Now, Google took them and put them interactively in a new portal called Google Mars. These are the most accurate maps of the Red Planet ever produced. The Google Mars site is now available and is used in a similar way to the Google Maps service.
Mars Is A Fascinating, Yet Mysterious Planet
Mars has always fascinated scientists and not only them. We’ve always felt connected with the Red Planet and thanks to the technological achievements, over the time, we learned more about our neighbor. Now, even more, SpaceX and NASA are both working on developing reliable spaceships to fly humans to Mars and also put the basis of a Mars colonization.
Besides, new findings indicate that Mars might have water and a recently taken photo, captured by the ESA’s Mars orbiter, revealed a strange elongated cloud right above a dead volcano on Mars.
Google Mars Allows You To Visit The Red Planet And See All The Important Regions Of Mars
The satellite data gathered by the scientists at the Arizona State University and used by Google Mars is highly accurate and allows visitors to explore the surface of Mars in detail, showing dunes, craters, spacecraft and almost all regions.
The maps can be observed in three versions, thanks to an elevation map where you can see the topography of the Red Planet, a grayscale one that allows you to see more details of the surface and one with images in the infrared spectrum.
The way to use it is simple. You can zoom in to see the images in detail or look for more precise information in the nine categories you can access in the top-left menu. You can check the map for yourself here.
