Experts Analyze Another Astronomical Mystery – Here’s What Colliding Neutron Stars Generate

SciTechDaily addresses the fact that neutron star collisions don’t create the number of chemical elements that have been previously assumed, according to a brand new analysis of galaxy evolution. 

The research also reveals that the current models are not able to explain the amount of gold that’s in the cosmos and this creates an astronomical mystery.

A new-look Periodic Table 

The work produced a new-look Periodic Table according to the online publication that’s been mentioned above. This shows the stellar origins of the naturally occurring elements from carbon to uranium.

It’s been also revealed that all the hydrogen in the Universe (and this also includes every molecule of it on Earth) has been created by the Big Bang and this also produced lots of helium and lithium. 

It’s been also revealed that the rest of the elements that occurred naturally are made by different nuclear processes that are happening inside the stars. 

Mass governs which elements are forged 

“Mass governs exactly which elements are forged, but they are all released into galaxies in each star’s final moments — explosively in the case of really big ones, or as dense outflows, similar to solar wind, for ones in the same class as the Sun,” according to the info coming from SciTechDaily. 

“We can think of stars as giant pressure cookers where new elements are created,” said co-author Associate Professor Karakas, from Australia’s ARC Centre of Excellence for All Sky Astrophysics in 3 Dimensions (ASTRO 3D).

He continued and said: “The reactions that make these elements also provide the energy that keeps stars shining bright for billions of years. As stars age, they produce heavier and heavier elements as their insides heat up.”
