The hype surrounding Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been enormous in recent months and for good reasons. AI chatbots such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT have proven to be very powerful as long as people know how to use them. But is the recent surge of AI really helpful for the world, or can it do more harm than we may even imagine?

The idea that intelligent robots will destroy society and humanity has already been speculated in literature and movies. But since AI apps are now more powerful than they have ever been, more and more people are concerned about how they will be used by us humans. There are, for instance, numerous teachers out there who are mad at AI chatbots for doing the homework of their students. The most frightening part is that there seems to be no 100% accurate way to detect content written by AI.

But what if the worst is still yet to come?

Mo Gawdet sees AI as more dangerous than climate change

Mo Gawdet, a former top Google executive, is one of those who are extremely concerned about AI. Futurism has discovered that during an interview on Stephen Barlett’s ‘The Diary of a CEO’ podcast, the man expressed his concerns by explaining:

It is beyond an emergency,

It’s the biggest thing we need to do today. It’s bigger than climate change, believe it or not.

The likelihood of something incredibly disruptive happening within the next two years that can affect the entire planet is definitely larger with AI than it is with climate change.

Gawdet also emphasizes how much ChatGPT has changed already in just a few months. With GPT-4 already being here, GPT-5 could be terrifyingly smarter in his view. The next version of the AI chatbot could even be 10 times smarter than Einstein, he suggests, and nobody can predict at this point how such an intelligence might be exploited by humans.
