When it comes to our bodies, we all have at least one scare that came from a childhood injury, puberty or some surgery that we had to go through. Most of us wish we didn’t have those scars to begin with. This wish may become a reality for future generations since researchers have come up with a Band-Aid that promises to reduce the healing period and the scar that may form.

More details about this promising project

The main feature of this product comes from a protein that is usually found in fetus skin. Weird, right?! This protein helps them heal if they get injured in the womb. However, this protein tends to disappear after the baby is born.

For those that do not know, the ‘scar tissue’ that you see if formed by collagen, a natural protein in our body. However, collagen can now directly mimic the tissue that it is creating with the one that we had.

A team of researchers aided by the University of Harvard decided to test out this theory on mice. They saw that it worked. In future testing sessions they plan to use it on pig skin because it is more similar to ours.

If this theory does turn into a product that people can buy off the shelves or that doctors can use on patients, it will prove to be a major success. Not only to the regular person that bruised his finger trying to open a can and cut his flesh, but also to people that have to live with scars that they may get stigmatized for. Scars that are on one’s face or that are particularly jagged and ugly. Yes, there are surgical procedures that can help fix scars but why not use a simpler solution that is cost effective and better for the individual?
