Next year will be an important one for Verizon users since the company will launch its fast home internet service. It will be released in “three to five” markets in the second half of the year. Sacramento, Calif will be the first area that receives this service.

It appears that Verizon trialed 5G residential applications in eleven markets, and those tests were all successful. There are no other launch markets announced yet, but the company is supposed to reveal more details at a later date.

The evolution of 5G

“These services will use radio signals, rather than copper or fiber cables, to provide customers with unprecedented wireless speeds for internet access. As 5G continues to evolve, customers will benefit from a wide array of services – including broadband, mobile, and IoT (Internet of things) — and the necessary bandwidth and low latency for 3D and virtual reality applications,” the company announcement explained.

This announcement is a big step for the evolution of the Internet since users have been waiting for 5G development for quite a while. “The targeted initial launches we are announcing today will provide a strong framework for accelerating 5G’s future deployment,” declared Hans Vestberg, Verizon’s president of global networks and CTO. The company also offered a tour where the 5G antenna setup was revealed.

When it comes to 4G it is a bit difficult to use it as your primary internet service since it suffers from tight data caps. However, it appears that this won’t be the case for 5G which means that consumers will receive an internet service that operates at high speeds and can be used on a daily basis. According to Vestberg, this is a “landmark announcement for consumers and investors who have been waiting for the 5G future to become a reality.”
