Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right? How many times did you hear that? And how many times you did that?

Well, of course, chances are, too many times to even bother to count. But, a team of researchers published a paper recently that highlights why breakfast is essential and why we shouldn’t skip it.

Curious to find out more?

Your Body Will Lack Vital Nutrients

The recent study found that adults who choose to skip breakfast are more likely to lack many vital nutrients. And that result came after a challenging session of examining data from over 30,000 American adults!

Stephanie Fanelli, MS, RDN, LD, and the first author of the study, comes up with the best explanation:

“Not only are adults who skip breakfast missing out on key nutrients, like vitamins and minerals, but they also are eating more calories, added sugars, and saturated fat.”

So, better think twice before you choose to skip breakfast again!

Make Better Food Choices, But First Serve Breakfast

The study also highlights the fact that people who ate breakfast seemed to make better food choices throughout the day.

And that might sound shocking but, those who do that are also eating more total calories for the day than people who skipped breakfast. So, more calories, but a better diet!

Health Consequences You Shouldn’t Ignore

Finally, skipping breakfast might also have some health consequences that you can’t ignore.

That includes the risk of developing chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes. And that’s because you lose certain nutrients.

What Should You Do

Remember that for any concerns or recommendations, you should talk with a specialist. Following a healthy routine can do wonders for your body, but what might work for a person might not have the same effects for you.

If you want to make sure you won’t skip breakfast again, try planning your meals ahead. Knowing what you want to eat in the morning should be essential if you want to have a good day!
