A tiger often referred to as the ‘man-eater of Champaran’ was called that way for a good reason. The animal, who was also known as T-104, has been on a rampage after human flesh in the Champaran region of India, where he killed at least nine people. After about 200 police officers and district officials went after the tiger, the animal was finally shot dead, as BBC News reveals.

The wild animal was a three-year-old male tiger, and many people living near the Valmiki Tiger Reserve were afraid of it for good reasons.

Bihar police led the operation

The final struggle to take down the T-104 tiger began after the news appeared that a mother and her child got killed in a tiger attack, according to Nesamani K, the director of Valmiki Tiger Reserve.

There were also attempts to tranquilize the beast, but they were proven unsuccessful. The tiger continued to act aggressively.

Paltu Mahato explained for the Hindustan Times:

It was a sleepless night for the whole village,

While some of us kept banging stones against each other, others kept beating tin containers to shoo away the tiger.

Neshamani K. explained, as the same source quotes:

Steps are being taken to fulfil all the necessary legal formalities, including a post-mortem examination,

The viscera will be sent to Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly and Wildlife Institute of India (WWI) at Dehradun for forensic testing.

The majority of the wild tigers of the world live in India. The Asian country is also the place where about 3000 tigers live. What’s peculiar is that, in general, tigers show no preference for human flesh. Most of these animals will only attack people if they cannot find another way to satisfy their needs physically.

Otherwise, tigers eat only meat, and they are the world’s largest wild cats.
