We all like to drink juice, especially when we are kids. However, even the fruit juices are not as good as the fruit itself. Keep reading if you want to find out more about this subject.

The main reason why juices are not that good for your health

Well, any kind of juice has a high quantity of sugar. For those commercially distributed things are even worse because most of them do not keep the important parts of the fruit like the pulp, besides the fact that they are high in sugar.

If that’s not enough for you, we have to tell you that smoothies, which do use the entire fruit, contain the same amount of sugar as the regular juice.

Next, we want to talk about the fact that fruit juice contains “natural” sugar. It doesn’t mean that it’s a healthier option of the commercial juice. Also, according to the World Health Organization, the sugar in juice is not even considered to be actually natural sugar. It contains “free sugars”, also present in sodas.

The expert recommendation

The experts believe that we should all reduce the number of free sugars to less than 10% of the daily calories. If we don’t do that, we risk having health problems such as strokes, cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes and more. Kids are the ones who consume the most juice, but according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, parents can choose not to offer juice to their children and that will not be a problem at all. However, if they do, the quantity of juice should be limited.

The specialist also thinks that the fruit juice has some nutrients to offer, but you need to stick to a small and balanced amount like five ounces a day.

Lastly, here’s what we have to say about the vegetable juice. It can be nutritious if you don’t use high-sugar vegetables and a better alternative for the sugary fruit juice.
