While holding his child in his arms, on Monday night at his show, Jimmy Kimmel was struggling to hold back his tears while asking the Congress to proceed to a health insurance program for children. Jimmy Kimmel’s 7-month-old child, Billy, was born with a congenital health disease. He explained to the audience why he wasn’t present last week saying that his baby had a heart surgery and that now the little one is fine. After the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) had expired in September, he wanted to make the viewers call both the Senate and the House to refund CHIP while 9 million kids cover the whole program.
How did all begin
The whole story became personal six months ago, in May when his child was born with two heart defects and had immediately undergone surgery. Together with his wife, Molly McNearney, they have decided that he can talk about their son’s condition, but also about the health insurance program for children with diseases. After a 13-minutes monologue where he acclaimed that he thought America is the greatest in the world and millions of people did not have access to health insurance at all, people admired his courage to speak up and he even kept the battle for months.
What Kimmel expects for the viewers to do
Kimmel stated on the show that since the funds were cut, a parent of a child from America can sooner or later receive a letter saying the foundation cannot cover for their children’s disease anymore. That will be a hell of a present for Christmas. While the Congress is getting tax cuts for the billionaire and millionaire donors, CHIP is a life and death supportive program and the Congress cannot even consider on not refunding it. Kimmel showed his dissatisfaction on the Congress acting and asked viewers for a cooperation.
