How to Look After a Bad Back

How to Look After a Bad Back

There is nothing worse than having a bad back. It affects how you sit, stand, walk, and even how you sleep. While some painkillers might help, there are a few other methods you can use to help your back hurt less. \

Change your Footwear

One of the first things you should do involves changing your footwear. If you wear heels, thongs, or any backless style you could be hurting your back. This is because footwear such as these ensures that you need to tense each foot so the shoe stays on. This, in turn, affects your back and can cause it to ache.

The good news is that you can help to relieve your back pain by changing your footwear. Ideally, you should wear flat shoes. However, if you would like to wear a heel make sure you wear shoes that have no more than a one inch heel. Many people choose to wear tennis shoes to help their back. However, after around 400 miles, these shoes will no longer provide you with any support. Make sure you wear a new pair of tennis shoes every so often.

Get a Massage

Did you know that a massage can work wonders for your back? This does, of course, depend on the type of back injury that you have. Please make sure that if you do opt for this type of treatment that you have a professional massage. This is because a qualified therapist will know how to manipulate your back properly, ensuring you’re more likely to feel better.

Frequent treatments can help to loosen up your back and make the pain a little more bearable.

Work on your Baggage

Do you tend to carry a heavy laptop around with you? Perhaps your purse is full to the brim and it’s hard to lift up. After a while, you might notice that your posture has changed. This can put a lot of pressure on your spine, especially on one side.

Consider using a rucksack as they can ensure the weight is distributed evenly. If you do not want to get a rucksack you should consider swapping the sides that you carry your laptop or purse on. This can help your posture but it won’t resolve your bad back.

Change your Mattress

Many people believe that a hard mattress is ideal for a bad back. However, this is not the case. In fact, a medium-firm mattress is thought to be the best for your back. This is because it can help to alleviate your lower back pain.

You might also want to consider using a memory foam mattress. This is because they support your weight and ensure you’re less likely to have an uncomfortable night’s sleep.

If you have had a bad back for more than two weeks please speak to your doctor. If you already receiving treatment for your back make sure you always follow their instructions. Use the above tips to help you get a bit of pain relief. A little bit of pain relief can make a huge difference.
