How to Activate Your Third-Eye

How to Activate Your Third-Eye

The pineal gland is a pine shaped cone located in your brain that’s capable of many wonderful things. Also known as the third eye, it has been used by mystics and saints for ages to gain wisdom about the world and develop an extrasensory perception that helps them see things not perceivable to the human eye.

Revered in almost every culture, the activation of the third eye and its benefits find a reference in the Egyptian culture as the Eye of Horus and in Indian philosophy as the ajna chakra or the energetic wheel found in between the eyebrows.

Your third eye is considered the seat of intuition and superconscious. Some of the common third eye opening side effects are clarity, wisdom, intellectual balance, foresight, and heightened intuition.

In this article, we will discuss ways to open your third eye.

Ways to Activate Your Third Eye

When working on yourself energetically, it’s always wise to take gradual, small steps towards your progress. In the Indian chakra system, the body is believed to have seven energy centers or chakras, and the third eye, or the ajna chakra, is the sixth chakra. Experts advise building on the first five chakras before attempting to open the third eye as it can be dangerous for an unprepared mind.

With this in mind, let’s look at some simple and easy ways to activate your third eye.

  • Quiet the Mind

The easiest way to tap into your third eye potential is to start by quieting the mind. Simple acts like a quiet walk in nature, doing yoga, or star gazing can help you quiet the mind. A quiet mind is the first step towards third eye opening as it creates a space between you and your thoughts and sharpens your perception. This enables you to increase your extrasensory perception so that you can perceive the subtle wisdom of the universe.

  • Meditate

If you want to activate your third eye, meditation is the most effective way. You can practice mediation techniques on an app or try visualization exercises to sharpen your third eye. However, the simplest and most effective way to meditate is to simply focus on the spot between your eyebrows and watch your breath.

Initially when you start meditating a lot of images may come up. Don’t try to push them away. Simply observe your thoughts and let them pass. This will slowly create more space within and expand your consciousness.

Watching your thoughts as a witness, without getting caught up in them, is a sign that your third eye is activated.

  • Practice Chanting

The third eye is believed to be directly connected to the source and its essence is that of luminesce. Chanting causes the bone in the nose to vibrate, which further stimulates the third eye and the pineal gland.

You can chant or hum “OM”. The Hindu chakra system believes the sound “OM” is the seed sound of the third eye chakra. “OM” is also considered as the universe’s primordial sound and can cleanse, energize, and fine-tune your third eye. Traditionally, this mantra is chanted 108 times for optimal benefits. However, you can chant it for as long as you can concentrate.

  • Practice Breath Work

Breathwork like pranayama is very effective in activating the third eye chakra. Pranayama is a set of breathing exercises that focus on cleaning and energizing the subtle energy channels called the nadis. As the nadis get cleansed and energized, the breath is free-flowing and enhances the activation of the third eye.

  • Practice Yoga Regularly

Regular practice of yoga asanas like balasana, or child pose. While doing the child pose, make sure that your forehead touches the floor. Stay there in that position for at least two minutes. This will help stimulate your pineal gland. The forward fold pose is also beneficial for the third eye. This inverted posture brings your heart below your head, which helps shift your perception.

  • Shift to A Nutritious Diet

What you eat has a great impact on your energy body, thus directly impacting your third eye. Packaged junk food often causes energy blockages and harms your thoughts and emotions. Include wholesome grains, legumes, green leafy vegetables to your diet. Add purple-colored foods like grapes, cabbage, eggplant, and purple kale to balance your third eye. Foods like spirulina, chlorophyll, and raw cacao help detoxify the pineal gland.

  • Use Crystals

Crystals are influential in cleansing and opening your third eye. Use crystals like amethyst, lapis lazuli, moonstone, and purple sapphire to meditate or place them on your forehead to balance and align your third eye.

  • Use Essential Oils

Essential oils like lavender, frankincense, white sage, and pine stimulate the pineal gland and can aide your third eye activation. You can use them in many ways like adding them to a diffuser, mixing it in your massage oil, or adding it to your bathwater.

  • Journal Your Dreams

Paying attention to your dreams is a big step towards knowing what’s going on in your inner world. Dreams represent the subconscious mind and deciphering what your dreams are telling you can give you clarity and enhance your intuition. Journaling your dreams daily will help you bring awareness into your daily life, thus, helping you heal your third eye.

Once you’ve activated your third eye you may experience certain benefits like sudden clarity on situations, inner wisdom and knowing, and a gradual shift in perception. An activated third eye can make you feel connected to the entire world and heighten your understanding of situations around you.

Though activating your third eye has several benefits, it can also be dangerous and lead to psychosis if you’re not prepared. That’s why taking a slow and steady approach towards third eye activation is ideal. Adding simple routine changes to your lifestyles like daily meditation, yoga, a nutritious diet, and dream journaling can slowly help you activate your third eye while also strengthening your spiritual foundation.

Finally, remember that activating your third eye is a spiritual process that follows its natural course and your journey should be as beautiful as the destination.
