HBO is the best place to watch Game of Thrones and Westworld, among others, as well as the world’s best movies ever made. But, now we have both HBO Go and HBO Now. Are there any differences? What’s the catch there, why is there an HBO Go and an HBO Now? And, more important, which one you should use?
Practically, there are no functional differences between HBO Go and HBO Now, except that HBO Go takes advantage of an existing HBO subscription, while HBO Now is entirely independent. To explain it better, if you have a cable subscription that also covers HBO (or a standalone HBO subscription), you should go with HBO Go. On the other hand, if you don’t have an HBO subscription, then HBO Now is for you.
HBO Go Vs. HBO Now – Content
Both HBO Go and HBO Now offer everything HBO is providing, that including live broadcasts and vast catalog of both TV series and movies, including those HBO-original ones.
HBO Go Vs. HBO Now – Price
HBO Go is free as an add-on service to your regular cable subscription for the HBO pack, which may vary significantly depending on your provider’s offers. On the other hand, HBO Now costs $15 per month for everybody.
HBO Go Vs. HBO Now – Availability
Both HBO Go and HBO Now are available on PC, Android, iOS, PlayStation, Xbox, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Google Chromecast, Android TV and lots of other platforms.
However, HBO Go is available worldwide (with some exceptions), while HBO Now is only serving the United States residents. Also, HBO Now aims to compete with Netflix and Hulu directly and totals about 5 million subscribers as of February 2018.
In short, HBO Go and HBO Now are identical, excepting that HBO Now is a standalone service which doesn’t require a cable subscription for HBO. Also, HBO Go is available in many locations around the world, while HBO Now is only limited to the United States.
