In a video shot by a student on January 19th, a Southern California professor, Gregory Salcido, was clearly heard referring to the military members as “the frickin’ lowest of the low”, as he considers that recruits appealed to Army as a last resort, during a discussion with his students at the El Rancho High in Pico Rivera.
Salcido about the soldiers: “lowest of the low!”
“Think about the people you know who are over there. Your freakin’ stupid Uncle Louie or whatever. They’re dumb s***s. They’re not high-level bankers. They’re not academic people. They’re not intellectual people. They’re the freakin’ lowest of our low,” Salcido is clearly heard saying in the video.
The Pico Rivera’s Mayor didn’t address directly to the remarks made by that Salcido, who is also the city’s councilman, but said that without the values and sacrifices done by the local veterans who have served with great pride and honor, the city of Pico Rivera wouldn’t exist now.
The student’s parents are Army vets who served with honor
The student who shot the video admitted that he got angry as Salcido started to lecture another student because he was wearing a “Marines” shirt.
He added that he, himself, felt offended by the Salcido’s lecture as the kid’s father and both of his uncles are Army vets and served in Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Afghanistan.
The video became viral
Soon after the student uploaded the video on Facebook, it became viral as more than 1,5 million people watched it left comments accusing Salcido’s behavior. However, Salcido didn’t directly address the accusations but, indirectly, referred to the importance of the rights of free expression.
Salcido is not at his “first offense”
In 2010, he was suspended from the summer school after a parent complaint was registered. Supposedly, Salcido made racist comments during his summer school classes.
Even though he denied it, he was still suspended for the remaining summer classes.
