Although elephants are usually peaceful animals, they can become very aggressive when they are injured, harassed, or even when they become sick. These huge mammals can run at up to 30 mph, and they are also among the most intelligent animals.
According to an article posted on CNN and to a statement by South African National Parks, a herd of elephants trampled to death a suspected poacher in the Kruger National Park from South Africa on Saturday (April 17).

Three suspected poachers ran into a herd of elephants

The three suspected poachers tried to flee the rangers from the Kruger National Park, and they began to run into a breeding herd of elephants. The suspects dropped some tools and ran away from the rangers when they realize that they’re not alone. While one of the suspects was arrested after the rangers called for backup, he provided some interesting info about his accomplice.
As one of the official statements says, while cited by CNN:

The Rangers discovered his accomplice badly trampled and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The third suspect is said to have been injured in the eye but continued to flee. A rifle was recovered and the case was referred to police, who together with the pathology team attended to the scene.

The rangers discovered that the accomplice was badly trampled, and he succumbed to his injuries. The third suspect continued to flee despite getting injured in the eye.
Gareth Coleman, managing executive at the Kruger National Park, declared:

We are proud of the teamwork and dedication of our Rangers Corp, our aviators and the K9 unit. It is unfortunate that a life was unnecessarily lost. Only through discipline, teamwork and tenacity will we be able to help stem the tide of rhino poaching in KNP.

The search for the third suspect continues while the authorities are hoping to find him.
