If you’re trying to shed some weight from around your mid-section, you should make sure to add these foods into your diet!
Visceral fat, typically referred to as abdominal or belly fat, is really hard to get rid of which is why it’s always advised to be well informed about nutrition if this is your goal.
That being said, check out the most efficient foods for melting belly fat as per professional nutritionists!
- Greek Yogurt
Plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt is a great choice whether you consume it during breakfast or as a snack between meals.
The Nutrition Twins, Lyssie Lakatos and Tammy Lakatos Shames explain that Greek yogurt is “packed with protein which helps squash hunger and the overeating that is associated with it. Getting adequate protein is critical for melting more fat too, including belly fat, since protein is essential for building lean muscle tissue. Eating yogurt is associated with a lower body weight, body fat and a smaller waist. Additionally, yogurt is a good source of probiotics, and having a healthy gut microbiome is associated with less body fat, belly fat included.”
- Beans
According to registered dietitian Kim Yawitz, the most recommended food for people who want to lose belly fat is beans!
Yawitz mentioned that “Beans are an excellent source of fiber, and studies suggest that eating more of them can help fend off belly fat. An easy way to incorporate more beans into your diet is to add cooked white beans into your smoothie—you’ll never know they’re even there!”
- Salmon
Inclusive plant-based dietitian Amy Gorin shared that, according to a study, eating salmon was linked to “a decrease in the percent of central abdominal fat” so don’t hesitate to include this delicious food into your diet and you’ll see results in no time!
- Nuts
Yawitz also recommends eating nuts as studies have shown that those who include this food into their diets have less visceral fat and weigh less on average than those who do not really eat nuts often.
Walnuts, in particular, are a wonderful option that you just can’t go wrong with!
However, just keep in mind that eating too many nuts can actually lead to weight gain so Yawitz stresses that balance is key.
“Just under half a cup per day should do the trick,” the expert says.
- Carrots
Eating carrots can help your body in many wonderful ways including shedding some stubborn abdominal fat.
This is because carrots feature Carotenoids, pigments that give fruits and vegetables their yellow, orange or red colors.
That being said, Yawitz mentioned that a study was able to prove women who eat more carotenoid-rich foods tend to have less belly fat than those who do not.
