Resveratrol is found in red wine, and this compound has been proven to have anti-stress effects. A recent study claims that the stress is controlled in the brain by an enzyme, and the resveratrol blocks its expression.

What does the study say?

Our neurological processes are impacted by resveratrol, and a study published in the journal ‘Neuropharmacology’ talks about them. The co-lead author of the study, Ying Xu, said that instead of taking drugs, patients suffering from anxiety disorders and depression could be treated with resveratrol.

Resveratrol has a lot of benefits when it comes to our health, and it is found in the seeds and skin of berries and grapes. The stress hormone corticosterone is influencing phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4), an enzyme, but its relationship with the compound is unknown. However, resveratrol has been identified by the research to have antidepressant effects.

The response to stress that our body generates is regulated by corticosterone. However, there could be excessive amounts of the hormone circulating in the brain if you are under too much stress so you might develop depression or other such disorders.

Drug therapy is complicated due to the unknown physiological relationships. Xu said that the noradrenaline and serotonin function in the brain is what current antidepressants focus on, and too little patience enters full remission because of them.

Anxiety-like behavior and depression are caused by PDE4 when induced by excessive amounts of corticosterone as it was revealed by researchers after doing a study on mice. The physiological changes such as change, cell division, death, and migration are signaled by a messenger molecule called cyclic adenosine monophosphate which is lowered in the body by the enzyme and this way the brains suffers from physical alterations. Corticosterone has no chance when battling with resveratrol, so this could be used in antidepressants.
