Nutritionists Advise Against Eating These Fruits if You’re Trying to Lose Weight

Despite being generally regarded as a healthy snack, some fruits don’t rank among the top fruits for weight loss.

The vitamins, minerals, and fiber that you need to be healthy are all found in fruits but fruit consumption should still be moderate, just like with any other food.

Additionally, it’s crucial to choose the fruit you consume carefully. A diet high in sweet fruits may cause weight gain. Some fruits are worse than others.

Lisa Richards, a licensed nutritionist, and Dr. Craig Primack, a specialist in weight loss, explain why dried fruit and tropical fruits in particular, are so detrimental to your progress if you wish to drop some pounds.

Dried Fruit

The most popular varieties of dried fruit include apricots, raisins, prunes, and figs.

There are many types of dried fruit available, and occasionally they come in candied (sugar-coated) form.

Fruit that has been dried may be stored for a lot longer than fruit that has not been dried. They are frequently used as snacks or in salads, cereal, and even yogurt.

But when consumed in excess, dried fruits can harm both your general health and weight loss objectives.

This is because, sadly, the fruits’ original nutrients have been completely removed through the drying process.

Richards explains that “Dried fruit just tends to be higher in sugar than I’d to consume, primarily because it is highly concentrated in nature. This variety of fruit, regardless of its type, is significantly high in calories and sugar.”

Although the sugar content of fresh fruit is well-known, the fiber usually makes up for it. However, the dried version lacks a lot of fiber as well.

The expert warns that “This is mainly due to the preparation method which causes a really high concentration of sugar and of calories into a rather small serving size. Because of the small nature of dried fruit, it’s easy to overeat these snack items and the calories add up quickly.”

Tropical Fruits

Dr. Primack mentions that “Everything is okay in moderation; that being said many aren’t good at moderation when it comes to eating and dieting,” and that includes tropical fruits such as mango, bananas, papaya, and pineapple.

As it turns out, “This category tends to have more sugar and more calories than the other fruit groups and if you’re trying to avoid sugar, it’s best to avoid this group.”

Tropical fruit may contain undetected calories that interfere with your efforts to lose weight.

These fruits should be avoided because they are too sweet.

Therefore, nutritionists and specialists in weight loss like Richards and Dr. Primack advise staying away from dried fruits and tropical fruits alike.

These fruits are the worst for weight loss because they either have no nutritional value or have a high sugar and calorie content. Instead, choose fruit with fiber and metabolism-boosting qualities like blueberries and grapefruit.
