If you’re one of the 40% who has substituted sugar with sweeteners—in particular, drinking diet Coke instead of normal brain studies suggest this might have the absolute reverse impact of what you desire. A new study has shown a relationship between dietary soda and the consumption of calories… And you are inclined to ponder about the scientific answer.
The research team at the University of Southern California was conducted with 74 healthy volunteers aged 18 to 35 years and was led by a group of experts that studied neurology, obesity, and medicine. The BMI was utilized to evaluate if the individuals were average, overweight, or obese.
The study found the purpose of “analysis of nerve reactivity to different kinds of calorie-like food (e.g. sweet and savory), metabolic reactions and eaten-compliance” following the consumption of sucralose (artificial sweetener) by some participants and the consumption of sucralose by others and water by another team.
Maybe unexpectedly, glucose (blue sugar), insulin, and hormone levels were connected with higher levels of sugar, which were indicating a greater satisfaction of the hunger.
Surprisingly, the data indicate that when women volunteers in the diet were in the drink-consuming category, the intake of calories increased dramatically.
They say that women have “higher intake of calory following sucralose versus sucrose” – in general, the women who drank artificial sweetener ate more than those who had eaten sucrose.
Some observers conclude that artificial sweeteners may encourage the brain to want more food than sugar. In fact, the results of this study may show that if dietary soda is a regular dietary supplier, it may lead to calory consumption that is more than if you hit with water… and maybe calories more than you think.
