Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the whole world as hundreds of millions of people worldwide drink coffee. However, coffee might also be the best pre-workout supplement but only if taken at the right time. And that because it could be the healthiest way to energize your body and postpone the installation of fatigue and muscle soreness while training intensively.

While many people are still relying on various workout supplements, mostly shakes with proteins, vitamins, and so on, others opt for more natural means of getting their jolt of energy required for a successful training session.

According to Megan Medrano, during a discussion with Men’s Health UK, caffeine is boosting athletic performance much better than other pre-workout supplements on the market, plus that it’s a healthy way to achieve that. Not to mention that coffee can also be helpful in weight loss and improving focus and alertness.

Caffeine “can improve performance during intense exercise lasting 5 to 20 minutes,” said Megan Medrano who also added that its effects are improved if is taken along with food rich in carbs and proteins, especially.

“Your body still needs an adequate amount of carbohydrates, fat, and protein to power through an entire workout. If you want to add coffee to your pre-fuelling plan, be sure to add it in addition to your normal meal or snack, not in place of it,” Medrano explained.

Besides Medrano, Brennan Meija, a certified trainer and stuntman, also debated this topic on Men’s Health. According to him, using coffee as a pre-workout supplement helps people avoid the potentially harmful effects of additives contained by regular fitness supplements.

“Coffee may not contain additives like beta-alanine and creatine found in many pre-workout supplements. You know what ingredients you’re ingesting,” Meija stated. As for when to drink coffee to take advantage of its effects, the expert agrees that enjoying a cup of coffee with 45 minutes before training should be ideal for every person.
