Many people were sincerely hoping that the COVID pandemic was approaching its end. But unfortunately, nature doesn’t care about our desires. The pandemic seems far from over, and to make things worse, the newest Omicron variant makes the virus spread faster than ever before.

There’s a new massive COVID surge that the Americans have to deal with. Dr. James Phillips is chief of disaster medicine and works at the George Washington University Hospital. He’s there to bring us the terrible information that the current COVID surge among patients from the USA is unprecedented.

Over 103,000 people hospitalized for COVID

According to CNN, the USA is dealing with another terrible scenario for the first time in four months: more than 100,000 patients are hospitalized for infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. To be more precise, the data comes from the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr. Peter Hotez, who is dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, believes that the vaccination campaign for children didn’t go as planned. Therefore, this is one of the causes for the current pandemic situation, he seems to suggest. The doctor declared, as quoted by CNN:

We’ve just done a terrible job vaccinating our kids across the country… So even though there’s a lot of happy talk about the Omicron variant, less severe disease, when you add up all the factors… we’ve got a very serious situation facing us in this country, especially for the kids.

He also said firmly, as cited by the same source:

This narrative that it’s just a mild virus is not accurate.

According to information brought by worldometers.info, the US has reported a total number of over 57.1 million infections and more than 848,000 deaths due to COVID ever since the pandemic began.
