While millions of people already got vaccinated for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, others choose to remain skeptical. However, there’s nothing to blame, and more vaccine manufacturers will be awaiting approval for their drug in the near future. Only in the US, about 2.8 million people have gotten vaccinated for COVID-19.

Healthcare workers are in the frontline to get vaccinated, but The New York Times writes that a significant portion of them are refusing the drug. The county public health officials reveal that about 20% to 40% of frontline workers from LA County refused the vaccine when it was offered to them. Also, one in five frontline doctors and nurses from the Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills didn’t want to be vaccinated for the pandemic virus.

With such a high percentage, hospital and public officials met for strategizing how to distribute the unused doses in the best way, according to the Public Health Director Kim Saruwatari.

April Lu, who is a 31-year-old pregnant nurse from Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, refuses to take the vaccine because she suspects that it’s not safe for pregnant women:

I’m choosing the risk — the risk of having COVID, or the risk of the unknown of the vaccine,

I think I’m choosing the risk of COVID. I can control that and prevent it a little by wearing masks, although not 100% for sure.

Sal Rosselli, who is the president of the National Union of Healthcare Workers, declared:

It’s certainly disappointing,

But it’s not shocking, given what the federal administration has done over the past 10 months. … Trust science. It’s about science, and reality, and what’s right.

The COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for everyone who didn’t have a severe allergic reaction to any of the drug’s ingredients.
