A new study that NBC NEWS writes about says that losing weight can benefit your heart’s health even if you add some of the weight back afterward. 

Fewer chances of dealing with heart disease and Type 2 diabetes

Losing weight, even if some weight is gained back, can help reduce the risk of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes in the long run, according to the new study in question that analyzed data from 124 clinical trials with over 50,000 participants. The study found that risk factors for heart disease and diabetes decreased for people who lost weight through intensive behavioral programs, and that the reduced risk persisted for years after the programs ended.

While the average weight loss across the studies was 5-10 pounds, the average weight regain was 0.26-0.7 pounds a year. The findings support the idea that weight loss can lead to improvements in risk factors for heart disease, even when the amounts are not large.
