Authorities began rolling out COVID-19 vaccines for many countries, and the drugs developed by Pfizer and Moderna are getting the most attention. The two companies’ vaccines have shown about 95% efficiency during the tests, which means that we should look forward with optimism.

Almost 3 million Americans already got vaccinated for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but some of them are reporting unpleasant side effects. Oregonlive.com writes that state health officials said that an employee of the Wallowa Memorial Hospital from Oregon had to deal with a severe allergic reaction to a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Moderna.

Hospitalization and recovery needed

The employee is currently recovering in the hospital, according to the Oregon Health Authority. There’s no info yet about the person in question having any history of allergic reactions or not.

Another notable aspect of the employee’s case is that, until recently, only the vaccine from Pfizer/BioNTech was known to sometimes trigger severe allergic reactions. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices stated:

Surveillance will be critical to detect any rare serious adverse events which were not identified in the clinical trial.

If you’re among those who had severe allergic reactions to other vaccines, the best way to handle the problem is to ask your doctor if it’s ok to get either of the COVID-19 vaccines.

TheHill.com revealed recently that the World Health Organization (WHO) listed the vaccine from Pfizer for emergency use, thus marking the first time the organization approves a COVID-19 vaccine. With this achievement, distributing the vaccine for many countries that need it will be significantly easier.

Mariângela Simão, assistant director-general at the WHO, declares:

This is a very positive step towards ensuring global access to COVID-19 vaccines,

But I want to emphasize the need for an even greater global effort to achieve enough vaccine supply to meet the needs of priority populations everywhere.

  1. My son is allergic to PENICILLIN and just because he had an allergic reaction to it does not mean that penicillin doesn’t work for others. So I said that to say this to those who are afraid to take it; that the vaccine for Corona Virus/Covid 19 is safe to get for those who isn’t allergic to it and I pray that there is something that can be done for those who are allergic to it that wants to get the vaccine so they can be protected from Corona Virus/ Covid 19 too. Love Peace and Joy Lisa
