Before the study, the participants didn’t regularly climb stairs each day. The patients had to complete two different sessions, with a control gap of one to two weeks between them.
During the first session, the patients consumed a test meal after an overnight fast and rested for three hours, except the climbing exercises which were performed after one hour and two hours after the meal. Regular blood glucose medication was taken. The star exercises involved a climb to the second floor at an average rate of 80 to 110 steps per min and going slowly to the first floor. The tests showed that blood glucose levels recorded at 150 minutes after the meal was considerably lower in comparison to results recorded during the rest session.
It is important that other factors have to be taken into account before others attempt the routine, including the fact that they may have other diseases which could pose problems.
