Pretty much nobody likes to obey COVID restrictions, regardless of how useful the authorities consider them. People obey them first because they have to. But the great day of no more restrictions related to the ongoing pandemic will finally arrive, at least in one specific country.
According to CBSNews.com, PM Boris Johnson announced that most restrictions for preventing the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus will be dropped in a few days. Starting next week, England’s inhabitants won’t have to obey COVID restrictions anymore, not even to wear masks indoors if they don’t want to.
The vaccine booster campaign has been successful
According to Sky News, COVID certificates won’t be mandatory anymore, and people won’t be asked to work from home anymore.
Boris Johnson reckons that the end of the most recent surge of COVID infections was possible due to “the extraordinary [vaccine] booster campaign, together with the way the public have responded” to the Omicron-related restrictions. About two-thirds of the eligible population of England has been ‘boosted’, meaning that they had been triple vaccinated for the coronavirus.
For the last week, the number of new daily COVID cases has decreased by 38.9%. However, the daily COVID numbers remain pretty high in the UK.
PM Boris Johnson said, as quoted by CBSNews.com:
Many nations across Europe have endured further winter lockdowns, but this government took a different path.
According to information brought by worldometers.info, the UK has reached a total of 15.5 million infections and more than 152,000 deaths due to the COVID disease since the pandemic began. Other countries such as France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and others are still reporting hundreds of thousands of infections with the coronavirus.
We’re really hoping to see similar decisions for other countries as well, except for the UK. But of course, it’s more important for the COVID pandemic to go away!
