E-cigarettes Don’t Do As Much Damage As Regular Ones

Smokers already know that cigarettes are one of the worst vices and they can be very dangerous for your health. However, it can be very hard to give up smoking. The body will ask you for more, and most of the time you will give in to your temptation. That’s why most smokers try to find alternatives. E-cigarettes appear to be a good option, but they have their disadvantages as well.

They are less risky than regular cigarettes

One of the best things about e-cigarettes is that they offer almost the same feelings, but they are not that bad for your health. Regular cigarettes are made with traditional tobacco and nicotine, substances that come with numerous toxins. However, they can be addictive as well.

A new research shows how cigarettes and e-cigarettes can impact public health

Researchers wanted to find out how to public health of Americans will change if they all switched to e-cigarettes in the next 10 years. However, the study had some issues. First of all, they used 2012 data and they did not consider the growth in e-cigarettes use. Also, researchers did not take into account other tobacco products.

The study came up with two models: an optimistic model and a pessimistic one. The pessimistic model assumed that fewer people gave up smoking than they already do. However, even this scenario had some good results. “Even the gloomiest analysis [the pessimistic model] shows a significant gain in years of life if nicotine is obtained from vaping instead of much more deadly amounts of toxicants inhaled with cigarette smoke,” lead researcher David Levy, an oncologist at Georgetown University Medical Center, said.

Therefore, these results “support a policy strategy that encourages replacing cigarette smoking with vaping to yield substantial life-year gains.”
