The US Centers For Disease Control and Prevention have issued a health advisory to thousands of doctors across the country. The other day, healthcare workers have been advised to be on the lookout for a troubling new syndrome that could be associated with the Covid-19 infection.
The syndrome is called multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) and it’s been seen in children across Europe and in at least 18 more stated plus Washington D.C.
The doctors in the UK have first alerted other doctors about this issue back in April. Since the doctors in outer countries, which include France and Italy, have reported clusters of similar cases, this came in handy.
“Beginning about four or five weeks ago, in Europe, they started to describe a form of what really sounded like toxic shock,” according to Dr. Jeffrey Burns of Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Burns has been coordinating various video chats with doctors from all over the world in order to compare noted about Covid-19 in children, “There were just a few at first and then more,” Burns told CNN.
The cases were believed to be the Kawasaki disease
CNN also noted that at first, these causes were believed to be the Kawasaki disease which is a rare, inflammatory condition that is usually involving the major arteries and the heart as well. On the other hand, there were too many such cases for this to be that particular condition, and the doctors agreed then that it’s something different.
It’s also worth noting that a lot of the kids were also diagnosed with the Covid-19 infection or a past one.
Burns said that the condition is only rarely fatal, and most children manage to recover.
“During March and April, cases of COVID-19 rapidly increased in New York City and New York State. In early May 2020, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene received reports of children with multisystem inflammatory syndrome,” according to the notes coming from CDC health advisory.
