[email protected] is joining researchers around the world working to understand the 2019 Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) better to accelerate the open science effort to develop new life-saving therapies. By downloading [email protected], you can donate your unused computational resources to the [email protected] Consortium, where researchers are working to advance our understanding of the structures of potential drug targets for 2019-nCoV that could aid in the design of new therapies.”

“The data you help us generate will be quickly and openly disseminated as part of an open science collaboration of multiple laboratories around the world, giving researchers new tools that may unlock new opportunities for developing lifesaving drugs. Proteins are not stagnant — they wiggle and fold and unfold to take on numerous shapes. We need to study not only one shape of the viral spike protein but all the ways the protein wiggles and folds into alternative shapes to best understand how it interacts with the [lungs] so that an antibody can be designed,” the declaration continues.

“With many computers working towards the same goal, we aim to develop a therapeutic remedy as quickly as possible. By downloading [email protected], you can help provide us with the computational power required to tackle this problem,” the statement concludes.

Cases of Coronavirus are on the rise daily

The number of cases continues to rise around the globe, and yesterday, the UK reached its peak in terms of the highest number of cases confirmed in one day. The numbers jumped from 36 people infected to 87 confirmed cases in one day alone. The virus keeps spreading in the UK, and it only looks to do so more violently. A pandemic is to come over the country, say the experts.

Other experts believe that the COVID-19 won’t ever cease to exist. “This is going to be with us for some time – it’s endemic in human populations and not going to go away without a vaccine,” said Amesh Adalja, an infectious-disease expert at the Johns Hopkins Centre for Health Security. “It may decrease in transmission frequency so that you’ll be able to have time to get a vaccine scaled up by the next appearance of it,” he added.
