Coffee is a delicious beverage that can be enjoyed every single day. Whether it’s a fancy brew, a latte, or a simple cup of black coffee, the caffeine in coffee keeps us awake and alert. The most important benefit is the taste. Coffee is flavored by roasting, and roasting adds all sorts of desirable flavors. To a large degree, coffee’s flavor depends on how much heat it gets. If you want a strong coffee, the more heat you apply, the stronger the result. Coffee is also packed with health benefits, from improved cardiovascular health to protection against various cancers.

These include niacin, riboflavin, thiamin, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and iron. Coffee also contains the amino acid L-theanine, which can improve concentration and alertness. It is also rich in antioxidants called chlorogenic acid, which help prevent cell damage.

Coffee may help protect against liver disease.

Research suggests that moderate coffee consumption may help prevent cirrhosis or scarring of the liver. Coffee may help protect the liver from damage by alcohol, although most studies have found an association, not proof.

These hormones make us feel energized and alert. But too much caffeine makes you jittery and nervous. A large cup of coffee can also provide an energy boost, especially if you are feeling tired or sluggish. However, if you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or have heart disease, you may be advised to limit your caffeine intake.

Caffeine prevents the onset of a headache by inhibiting the breakdown of a chemical called adenosine, which constricts blood vessels and triggers a headache.
