The number of people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus keeps getting higher in the U.S, and many states have already added some restrictions. Los Angeles County already decided to make mandatory again wearing masks indoors, even for those fully vaccinated. According to CNN, this decision came after the Delta variant started to become dominant in the U.S, and for more than a week, Los Angeles had more than 1.000 new cases daily. Last week, Orange County Mayor was thinking of also making masks mandatory indoors and in crowded places due to a rise in daily infections.
Experts believe it is time for new restrictions before it is too late.
Dr. Leana Wen talked about the situation in the U.S, where 49 states have had a rise in daily infection numbers. She mentioned that people in the U.S started to relax with the ease of restrictions, and many believe that if they are fully vaccinated, they cannot contract the virus anymore. However, the Delta variant has been detected in fully vaccinated people. The idea is that once fully vaccinated, there is no more risk of developing a severe case requiring hospitalization and a difficult recovery, but that does mean that once vaccinated, a person does not get infected anymore; there are just slimmer chances. Different COVID-19 vaccines have different efficiency against the multiple SARS-CoV-2 strains.
Many U.S states have started to add new restrictions
The CDC has detected that more than 38 % have had a 50% increase in the number of infected people, and with less than 49 % of the U.S population vaccinated, things might get worse, experts predict. A recent article analyzed the situation in several U.S states, and all health experts believe the situation is not good. Many universities, colleges and other facilities started to require employees to be fully vaccinated, and new restrictions have been imposed in several states.
