UK To End Covid 19 International Travel Rules

There’s some good news hitting the UK travel these days. It’s been just revealed that the UK will scrap the remaining coronavirus-related restrictions on international travel from the end of this week, according to official notes.

This will be marking the end of nearly two years of measures, the UK government announced on Monday.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said in a tweet the government had decided to drop all pandemic-related travel restrictions from Friday.

It’s important to note the fact that these are including testing requirements for unvaccinated passengers and the passenger locator form for inbound travelers.

“Today’s announcement sends a clear message to the world – the UK travel sector is back.”

This is what Tim Alderslade, the chief executive officer of airline lobby group Airlines UK said recently.

“With travellers returning to the UK no longer burdened by unnecessary forms and testing requirements, we can now look forward to the return to pre-Covid normality.”

The latest on Omicron coronavirus subvariant

Covid cases have risen dramatically in the U.K. in recent weeks. According to the latest reports coming from CNBC, Germany continues to mark record high daily infections with over 250,000 new cases a day.

“Elsewhere, France, Switzerland, Italy and the Netherlands are also seeing Covid infections start to rise again, aided and abetted by the relaxation of Covid measures and the spread of a new subvariant of omicron, known as BA.2.”

The same article published by the online publication that we mentioned above notes that the public health officials and scientists are closely monitoring BA.2.

This has been described as a “stealth” variant. This is because it has “genetic mutations that could make it harder to distinguish from the delta variant using PCR tests, compared to the original omicron variant, BA.1.”
