Alzheimer’s Disease is something that has been analyzed by experts for a long time now. They reveal that the model of this disease has changed, and doctors released a new mathematical model for it. Check out the latest reports below.

A new mathematical model for Alzheimer’s disease is out

It’s been revealed that experts have used a mathematical model to reveal how toxic proteins cluster together inside the brain during the early stages of Alzheimer’s.

The researchers from the University of York’s School of Physics, Engineering, and Technology say the discovery could have important implications for future treatments.

The study shows the fact that a major class of proteins implicated in Alzheimer’s disease condense into objects that resemble liquid droplets. This is before forming clusters that impact normal brain activity.

Just to highlight the idea more, it’s important to note that Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. More than 50 million people worldwide have the disease. The number is expected to triple by 2050.

Dr. Steve Quinn, an Alzheimer’s Research UK Fellow and Lecturer in Biophysics at the University of York, said the following:

“Understanding the precise molecular-level ways through which amyloid clusters form may help us to design better anti-cluster drugs that combat Alzheimer’s disease at the earliest possible stage.”

The expert continued and stated this:

“We realized that the same methodologies that have been used previously to understand the growth of silk produced in spiders could also be applied to our understanding of amyloid clustering. Our work now provides theoretical support for the so-called Amyloid Hypothesis, and helps to explain the conditions under which clusters form.”

It’s also important to note the fact that for this study, scientists looked at two variations of the amyloid protein. It’s important to note the fact that both of them are found extensively in disease.
