Gut-Friendly Yeast Treats MS Pain and Fatigue

It has been just revealed the fact that there’s a gut-friendly yeast that is able to alleviate MS pain and fatigue. Check out the latest reports about the matter below.

Gut-friendly yeast can treat pain and fatigue

According to a recent study, a specific probiotic was found to be significantly more effective than a placebo in alleviating symptoms associated with multiple sclerosis.

The study revealed that after four months of use, the probiotic was able to effectively reduce pain and fatigue in individuals suffering from MS.

It is well-known that MS can cause a wide range of symptoms that can have a profound impact on a person’s quality of life.

This is due to the disorder attacking the myelin, the coating that insulates nerve fibers, thereby disrupting nerve signals traveling to and from the brain and spinal cord.

Previous research has shown that people with MS have a distinct gut microbiome compared to healthy individuals.

The microbiome plays a crucial role in the gut-brain axis, which involves the interplay of the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems.

In a study published on October 30 in Scientific Reports, 40 patients with Multiple Sclerosis were given only Saccharomyces boulardii (S. Boulardii) – a “friendly” probiotic yeast – and were then compared with a group who were given a placebo.

The results showed that those taking S. Boulardii had significantly reduced levels of an inflammatory marker called high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and had increased their serum antioxidant capacity.

C-reactive protein tests are used to detect small increases in the protein, which is produced by the liver and rises when there is inflammation in the body.

These screenings do not reveal the source of the increased inflammation but are often used to assess the risk of heart attacks.
MS patients have high oxidative stress levels due to chemical, physical, or microbial factors. Probiotic supplements improve their quality of life and reduce pain & fatigue.
