There is a weight loss diet that increased in popularity lately – the Pegan diet. Essentially, this one is a mix of paleo and vegan diets, and might indeed turn into the most promising diet for a healthy lifestyle. The Pegan diet is the brainchild of Dr. Mark Hyman, New York Times bestselling author, who created this hybrid diet to boost the advantages of both paleo and vegan diets.
A vegan diet, as we already know, is based on anything besides animal products or byproducts. That means, a vegan is not consuming meat, cheese, eggs, yogurt, and so on, his/her daily diet, being a regime mostly based on plants, veggies, and fruits.
Paleo diet, on the other hand, mimics the eating habits humans had during Paleolithic. Accordingly, the dieters only eat unprocessed foods, such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, grass-fed meats, and fish.
The Pegan diet is, therefore, mixing the paleo and vegan diets, taking the benefits of both those regimes and putting them into a single diet for promoting a healthy lifestyle.
The Pegan Diet, A Mix Of Paleo and Vegan, Might Be Very Promising For a Healthy Lifestyle
“There isn’t one right way to eat. I think it’s a wonderful diet to be inspired by ‘eat more plants; eat more whole foods’ – those are wonderful messages to incorporate, but I think for many of us living by a restrictive rule-focused diet may not be healthy for our body or our minds,” explained Desiree Nielsen, a registered dietitian in Canada.
“The Pegan diet is a great transition toward a more plant-based diet for meat eaters. It will increase intake of valuable phytochemicals from fruits and vegetables that help you fight inflammation. It will also help you move away from a hyper-processed and packaged eating pattern, which many of us consume in North America, which is not healthy for us,” added Nielsen.
“My stomach? Noticeably flatter. My skin? Bright and clear. My cravings for cheese – and even my desire to have a glass of wine – diminished. I also noticed I had a real clarity of mind and much more energy than usual,” said Liz Josefsberg, a certified personal trainer and nutrition exercise specialist, in an article.
In short, the experts believe that the Pegan diet, a mix of paleo and vegan, is indeed beneficial for us, promoting for a healthy lifestyle.
