There is a new study which claims that sugary drinks can be a decisive factor in developing cancer. Even though the study, conducted by a French team of researchers, has not exactly determined a direct connection between the disease and the consumption of these type of drinks, it was determined that consuming a smaller quantity of sugary drinks can help to diminish the number of people that have cancer.

There is a link chain between sugary drinks and cancer. Sugary drinks undoubtedly lead to obesity. Obesity is one of the factors that grow the risk of cancer. The World Health Organization advises people to lower sugar intake as much as they can.

The experts believe that if the daily dose of sugar is lowered to 10% of the total amount of daily energy intake, people have a greater chance of avoiding to get sick. Moreover, if the daily dose of sugar is lowered to 5%, which means almost 25 grams of sugar a day, they are on the right path of becoming healthier.

Over a 100,000 French people were part of the study; among them 21% were men and 79% were women. The study was done over a period of 9 years, during which people’s lifestyle was analyzed. In order for the research to have conclusive results, there were other factors taken into account when interpreting the data, such as family medical history, age, sex, physical activity, smoking, etc.

An 18% increased risk of cancer (22% for breast cancer) was recorded when the daily dose of sugary drinks (whether they were fruit juice or fizzy drinks) is of 100 ml. Taking into consideration these results, researchers advise the population to cut down on the sugary drinks and, more importantly, the sugar intake.

Countries like Britain, Belgium, France, Hungary, and Mexico are one step forward in comparison to other countries where the consumption of sugar is quite substantial. These countries are already planning the implementation of taxes on sugar. This way, citizens are more likely to become healthier.
