Losing some weight is almost always one of the best things that you can do. Especially after a vacation or the holidays, getting rid of those extra kilograms has significant benefits for your health. Such a measure will reduce the risk of stroke, heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer.

EatThis.com brings the exciting news of consuming oatmeal as a remedy for gaining weight. Gastronomy is a complex field, and it always brings surprises. Oats are known as incredibly nutritious. Whole oats are pretty rich in antioxidants, including avenanthramides.

Try rolled or steel cut oats

Katey Davidson, MScFN, RD, CPT, declared via Healthline:

[…S]ome versions of oatmeal are healthier than others . . . No matter your weight goals, you can make small changes to your oatmeal to help you either gain or lose weight.

If you’re aiming for getting rid of those pounds, Davidson places her bet on rolled or steel cut oats. She says that these are higher in fiber, less processed, and also lower in sugar compared to other types of oatmeal.

Don’t neglect the serving size! Pouring too many oats into a bowl isn’t a good idea. The standard serving size when it comes to oats is a half-cup dry. According to Davidson’s gastronomical teachings, a half-cup of rolled oats will grant 150 calories, 4 grams of fiber, and 5 grams of protein.

Keeping an eye on sugar is also a very important process. Davidson explains that added sugar can impact blood sugar and trigger hunger and low energy shortly after you eat.

It’s also not forbidden to become a little creative with the recipe. You can opt for pantry staples, fresh or frozen fruit, or a scoop of good protein powder.
