The Zoo is a place where both children and adults go with an open heart and joy every time; it is a place where they can see birds and animals that most of them wouldn’t have the chance to see someplace else. In every country in the world, the birth of a baby animal at the Zoo is celebrated by both visitors and staff.

The 10th of February 2018 was one of those celebrating days for people who have become friends with animals from the Dublin Zoo. Here, a cute baby Asian elephant was born in this beautiful day. The baby was received with joy by all the staff and children who visit the Zoo fell in love with it as soon as they saw it.

The elephant mum is called Anak and she gave birth after a gestation period of 22 months. Although it is a baby, the little elephant is already weighing 90 kg, so signs show that he will be a proud, robust representative of his species.

Anak’s baby is the second she had and the 7th calf born at the Zoo from Dublin and this happened in less than five years. Now, the sweet baby will join its’ siblings from the Asian elephants herd and here he will also find his father, the big Upali.

Dublin Zoo representatives say that the baby elephant is strong, healthy and was welcomed by the team who works here. Also, all the visitors who already saw it think that this new member of the Zoo squad will become friend with their children in no time. The most impressive fact is to see how the other young females who don’t have babies yet are trying to protect it. This is important because it prepares them for the moment when they will have their own calves.

If you want to see this new arrival, you can find it at the Kaziranga Forest Trail from the Zoo in Dublin.
